The new ‘fast-causal’ Mexican restaurant Salsa Fiesta – Urban Mex Grill is located in the heart of Coral Spring’s restaurant row on University.  We recently headed in for lunch and really liked the place.  The stylish interior matches the fresh tasty food and we think it will create some healthy competition in the area.

The interior of Salsa Fiesta – Urban Mex Grill does remind you of some of the other chains around.  The wood table tops and steel chairs make way for some colorful wall murals and nifty lighting.  It’s a clean restaurant with lots of seating inside and more on the patio outside.

The menu is larger than expected and we found many of the choices very appealing.  Salads, nachos, tacos and fajitas are some of the traditional fare but you might be tempted to try some of the ceviche, tortas or combinations.  They really have a wide selection that is sure to have everyone favorite Mexican dish.  Ordering at the counter was quick and friendly and they give you one of those ‘locater’ number beacons so they can locate you when they bring your food out.

The salsa bar had fresh house-made sauces and some fresh lime and jalapeno.  I tried both mild sauces and they were fresh and tasted pretty good.  Jeff liked the medium salsa/sauce and found the hot ‘cabbage’ item interesting.

Our food came out quickly, with the fajitas coming out first with the torta (sandwich) soon to follow.

Chicken Fajitas ($10.99) – They came on a sizzling plate, just as you find in any full-service restaurant and the portion was pretty large.  The veggies were fresh and the chicken was perfectly grilled.  Everything on the plate was served at the right temperature and the guacamole was smooth and very fresh.

Milanesa Torta ($8.99) – Crispy chicken, chipotle beans, poblano rajas, pickled onions, Chihuahua cheese, cilantro cream, avocado & arugula.  This was a serious looking sandwich and when I took my first bite, I was amazed on how well everything worked together.  The topping list is quite large, but everything seemed to have its place.  You almost got a different flavor in every bite, which only made me want more.  The chicken was light and crisp and not greasy at all and everything was very fresh.  The roll was soft, but held up to all of those toppings well.  You get a choice of chips & pico de gallo or soup with each torta.  I went for the chips, but they seemed to have forgotten the pico de gallo, so I just used the salsa from the free salsa bar.

We really liked our first to Salsa Fiesta – Urban Mexican Grill in Coral Springs and thought it was a great option to get your Mexican food fix.  While it’s a chain and not ‘authentic’ by most standards, we think the freshness, selection and prices made a worthwhile visit.
